İsmini renk ve görünüş olarak benzediği beluga havyarından alan siyah beluga mercimeği, tıpkı diğer mercimek türleri gibi  son derece besleyici bir ürün.

Beluga mercimeği  zengin bir karbonhidrat kaynağıdır. Düşük kalorisi ve  karbonhidrat içermesi, lifli yapısı  sayesinde kilo kontrolüne anlamlı katkı sağlar ve diyetlerde sıkça kullanılmaya başlanmıştır..
